Virsaviya(Bathsheba)@dariborun is an 8-year-old girl with a rare condition called Pentalogy of Cantrell. Her heart and intestines have been outside of her chest since birth. She is also missing part of her chest bones and abdominal muscles and doesn't have a diaphragm.
Virsaviya is from Russia where doctors are not experienced treating this condition. After being turned down by doctors in many different cities and countries, Boston Children's Hospital agreed to treat her. That's why Dari, Virsaviya's mother, who is single and cares for her alone, made the decision to come to the US. The surgery was supposed to help Virsaviya live a long life. Unfortunately, after expensive and difficult medical tests, the hospital made the decision to not do the surgery because of high blood pressure in her pulmonary artery.
The doctors told her mother to let Virsaviya live her life how she was born, and keep her in a warm place, because she also has two kidney conditions - pyelonephritis and pye lo cystitis - as well as reflex and bladder dysfunction and she, can get sick very quickly in cold weather. When Virsaviya gets sick, she starts choking and has very bad pain in her bladder and kidneys. This has already happened several times, and they do have not insurance to pay for treatment when it happens.
